The First Australian-Chinese Symposium on Cultural Communication and Development for Chinese Medicine

 “The First Australian-Chinese Symposium on Cultural Communication and Development for Chinese Medicine”, co-organized by the committee of Chinese medicine brand internalization from World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies and the Journal of “Chinese Medicine and Culture” by the Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, will be held at 16:30 - 19:00 (AEDT, Sydney time) on Sunday, 19th December, 2021. 

 The meeting will cover many valuable learning session such as incorporating the traditional Chinese medicine into the Australian Health System, the legislation of Chinese traditional medicine and its impact to the promotion/popularization in the world, the implication of the formal qualification for the acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine practitioner to ensure the safety of the patients, the practical experience of applying acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine into the Australian public hospital, the clinical treatment of the interaction effect on multiple Chinese herbal medicine, and the challenge faced by the Chinese medicine product and service in Australia.

 The meeting will count as the continuing education credits for the FCMA members after the recommendation from the Society of Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture - Australian Capital Territory (SCMA-ACT) to the academic committee of the FCMA and the event host. The meeting will be in both English and Chinese. The meeting is also free to the FCMA members and will count as 2.5 hours of CPD. (Note - Please keep a record of the time, session title, reflections for future possible inspection from the Chinese Medicine Board of Australia and the insurance company).

7Speaker Introduction:      Dr. Guo Funing

Dr. Guo Funing completed 6 years of western medicine courses and graduated from Guangzhou Sun Yat-sen Medical University In 1967. Later, she studied Chinese medicine at Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine for two years. She worked in the affiliated hospitals of two universities for nearly 20 years.

In 1981 and 1985, Dr. Guo Funing received a master's degree in medicine and a doctorate in medicine and was the first clinical Doctor of Medicine cultivated in China. Later, she went to the UCLA (University of California Los Angeles) School of Medicine for post-doctoral research and was a guest of the school Scientist certificate.

In 1987, Dr. Guo came to Australia to visit relatives and stayed behind. She began to teach basic theories and clinical practice courses of Chinese medicine to some Western physicians in Sydney, and joined the Australian Society of Western Medicine Gastroenterology under the recommendation of Prof. Piper, the chairman of the Australian Gastroenterological Society.

In 1988, she established the "Balmain Chinese Herbal Center" and became a practicing TCM physician until now.
