TOPIC: Treatment of Cervical Spondylosis and Thoracic Facet Joint Disorders with Tuina Techniques
This lecture will systematically introduce the comprehensive knowledge framework for treating cervical spondylosis and thoracic facet joint disorders using Tuina Techniques.
First, it will clarify the definitions and common symptoms of cervical spondylosis and thoracic facet joint disorders (such as neck and shoulder pain, upper limb numbness, and radiating pain in the chest and back). Then, it will analyze their common causes and pathogenesis, including spinal biomechanical imbalances caused by long-term strain and poor posture. On this basis, it will review the anatomical basis of the cervical and thoracic spine and the anatomical abnormalities caused by diseases, such as intervertebral disc degeneration and joint dislocation. Following that, the mechanisms of action of Tuina Techniques will be explained, covering the release of adhesions, correction of malposition, and improvement of circulation.
The lecture will focus on demonstrating commonly used relaxation techniques for the neck and back (plucking, grasping, rolling, and point pressing), as well as pressing and moving techniques. Finally, symptomatic treatment strategies will be provided based on specific clinical conditions, and important operational precautions will be emphasized – including contraindications, force control, and positional safety – to ensure clinical efficacy and safety.
Dr. Zou studied Tuina under Professor Wang Youren, a renowned national TCM master. From 2010 to 2011, he furthered his training for one year in the Department of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine Orthopedics at the Air Force General Hospital, where he studied integrated orthopedic manipulative techniques.
In clinical practice, he adheres to a combination of traditional and modern approaches, having developed the technical characteristic of "equal emphasis on muscles and bones, maintaining dynamic-static balance." At his hospital, he has led multiple clinical research projects at the ministry, bureau, and hospital levels. He has published over ten research papers and served as an associate editor for the monograph Characteristic Tuina Methods of the Pressing-Kneading School.
